Ginger Cookies

!/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup shortnening
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
!/2 cup hot water
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg


Dash salt
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons margarine, softened
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Combine sugar, hot water, molasses, shortening and egg. Blend well. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop by rounded tablespoons 2" apart.
Bake 375 degrees F. for 10-15 minutes,

Beat frosting ingredients until light and fluffy.

Spread over cooled cookies.
