Milk Toast was popular in the early 1900's for children and the ailing. My mother growing up during that period would make a variation of it but added a poached egg on top and would not add the cinnamon and sugar.
2 servings
2 slices toast
4 pats of butter
1 tablespoon cinnamon and sugar
1/2 cup warm milk
Butter toast as you would normally do for regular toast and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Tear into pieces and place into two cereal bowls. If you use a poached egg place it on top of this with or without the sugar and cinnamon.
Pour warm milk over.
