Hearty Split Pea Soup With Turkey Sausage-rice cooker recipe

Prepared by my daughter Kelly

Machine: Fuzzy logic or on/off rice cooker

Serves 6

2 cups dried green split peas, picked over and rinsed
6 cups water (7 if you like thinner soup)
1/2 pound turkey kielbasa, split lengthwise and cut into 1/4-inch slices
1 medium -size yellow onion, chopped
6 cloves regular garlic, chopped
2 medium stalks celery, chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons salt, or more to taste
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
About 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf

Place all the ingredients in the rice cooker bowl. Close the cover, set for the regular cycle, and set a timer for 1 hour.
When the timer sounds, check the peas for doneness, they should be very soft.
Season the soup, if needed with salt and pepper. Remove bay leaf before serving.
