Bulgarian Yogurt Cookies

Bulgarian Yogurt Cookies

2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup ground walnuts
¾ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening
¾ cup sugar
½ cup plain yogurt
Zest of medium orange
1 teaspoon vanilla
About ¾ cup powdered sugar for topping.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease baking sheets, Combine four, nuts and spices. Beat shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in yogurt, orange zest and vanilla. Stir in flour one cup at a time. Blend well.

Roll teaspoon of dough into 1 inch balls. Arrange 1 inch apart. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until bottoms are nicely browned. Roll cooled cookies in powdered sugar.
