Pan Dulce- Bread Machine Recipe
Pan Dulce is a Mexican Sweet Bread. It is wonderful with coffee, Mexican Hot Chocolate or tea because of its sweet flavor and light texture. Make sure you eat it the same day when it is fresh.
For a 1/2 pound amount (about 8 rolls)
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3 1/2 tablespoons butter
1 cup warm milk
For Panasonic/National machines us 3 teaspoons of yeast
Use the dough cycle of you machine.
While dough is raising in machine make the streusel or make a simple cinnamon-sugar mixture
Streusel
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
4 tablespoons butter
2 egg yolks
Mix together sugar and flour, add butter and 2 egg yolks. Mix together until well blended.
Cinnamon -sugar
1/2 cup sugar
4 tablespoons cinnamon
Remove dough from machine, punch down and separate into small (about 2 inch in diameters balls or dough. Roll into ball. Roll each ball flatter with a rolling pin. Spread the streusel or cinnamon mixture on dough. Place on cookie sheet and let rise until double in bulk or about 30-60 minutes.
After rolls are double make slit on top with sharp knife and bake in 375 F oven for 15-18 minutes or until the top of the rolls are light brown.
Note: I make mine larger by dividing dough into 8 balls.
