SNAILS (SCHMECKEN)-German Bread Machine Recipe-German
This German Pastry is like a sticky bun but does not have honey and are not sticky. Good for breakfast or tea.
12 snails
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 1/2 cups bread flour
2 tablspoons powdered milk
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
Filling
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
1 tablespoons, butter softened
Put dough ingredients in dough maker as suggested by manual. Process on dough cycle.
After dough cycle is finished remove(dough will be soft). Roll out on floured board into a 9 by 11 inch rectangle. Sprinkle 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins on top. Roll up in jelly roll fashion. Slice into 12 slices.
In a 9x11 inch lightly oiled pan smear 1 tablespoon butter and sprinkle with remaining brown sugar. Put slices in pan evenly spaced.. Let rise 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake 15 minutes. The dough will be together. Immediately turn dough out of pan. Let cool at least 10 minutes before you pull the snails apart.
