Speculaas -Spice Cookies-Windmill cookie-Dutch

Speculaas-spice cookies or sometimes called Windmill Cookies
Other than just about any type of chocolate cookie these are one of may favorite. They used a "speculaasplank" special wooden speculaas mold but you can roll out dough and use cookie cutters.

2 cups flour
1 cup margarine or butter
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup dark brown or Demarara sugar
3-4 tablespoons milk
silvered almonds
1 1/2 tablespoons speculass kruiden
speculass kruiden.


Sift flour over a large cutting board or counter top. Sprinkle the baking powder salt and sugar over it and mix together. Thinly slice the Hard butter and add it to the flour and sugar mixture. Add the milk and hand knead all until there is a firm but malleable dough. Pack the dough into a piece of foil and keep in the fridge overnight.

Press dough into floured mold and sprinkle with almonds. Shake the molded dough onto a dusted counter top. Put flat, almond covered side down onto cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees F. for 15 - 20 minutes
